Leadership Redefined: Thriving through Menopause

Following the success of our Fall 2025 events, APEX is pleased to announce our Winter 2026 Executive Experience Chats – small group sessions focused on timely and sensitive topics affecting today’s executive cadre.

In honour of International Women’s Day, join guest speaker and experienced executive Lauren Small for a session on leading during the menopause years. This session designed to foster open and meaningful conversation with your peers as Lauren shares her personal experience about this important topic that impacts all women — in particular, at a time when they are fulfilling their roles as executives. The event provides insight into some of the challenges that come along with menopause, offering insight into coping strategies.

Audience: Although this session may be of particular interest to women, all public service executives are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Language: This event will be in English. Simultaneous interpretation will be available via Wordly, an AI-based interpreting service.

Meet the Speaker

Lauren Small
Director, Workforce Engagement Branch, Parks Canada

Having just returned from Osaka, Japan as Director of Public Affairs and Communications at Expo 2025, Lauren is pleased to be back at Parks Canada as part of the Workforce Engagement Branch. A seasoned professional with over 29 years of federal public service, in operations, heritage, Indigenous affairs, science and innovation and international portfolios with Parks Canada, the Canadian Space Agency, Global Affairs and Environment and Climate Change Canada. A graduate of both Concordia and McGill universities, Lauren has been instrumental in three major legislative projects including the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Species at Risk Act, and the Remote Sensing Space Systems Act. Lauren also proudly serves as a Reservist with the Royal Canadian Navy, HMCS Radisson in Trois-Rivières, Quebec and was recently named as the Executive champion for My Menopause at Work. Lauren is a recipient of the APEX Community Contribution Award (2024) Public Service Award of Excellence (2022) Concordia University Alumna of the Year Award (2015) the Queen Elizabeth ll Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) and the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award (2002) (Sovereign’s Medal).
